1 / 6The Oloolua Nature Trail
About
Oloolua Nature Trail offers a rare forested escape just outside Karen, with a seasonal waterfall as its highlight. Tall indigenous trees block out the city noise, and red murram paths wind through thick green undergrowth. Perfect for families, solo walkers, or anyone needing a proper reset mid-week.
Oloolua Nature Trail sits inside a genuine indigenous forest on Karen Road, far removed from Nairobi's congestion. The trail runs roughly 7 kilometres through dense canopy, passing a small cave and a waterfall that flows strongest after the rains. Colobus monkeys occasionally cross the path overhead. The air smells of damp earth and eucalyptus. Paths are clearly marked and manageable for most fitness levels. Bring water and wear closed shoes, as sections get muddy after rainfall. Entry fees are modest and the forest stays uncrowded on weekday mornings. Families with young children find the terrain manageable and engaging. Birdwatchers come specifically for the Hartlaub's turaco and other forest species. It rewards a slow pace, so plan for at least two hours.
